Instruction and assessment

Statements for those who teach AI competence or assess it in others: designing instruction against defined statements, and judging evidence of competence rather than evidence of familiarity.

11 statements published at v1.29

What this overlay covers
INDesigning instruction against named statements at a named level, rather than against topics.
INSelecting and constructing assessment tasks that produce evidence an assessor can judge.
INJudging evidence against performance indicators, including borderline and insufficient evidence.
INRecognising and declaring the limits of one’s own competence in the domains being taught.
INHandling conflict of interest where the instructor is also the assessor.
OUTThe subject competence itself. An instructor teaching D6 at L3 must hold the D6 statements; the overlay does not restate them.
OUTAwarding-body procedure, quality assurance and appeals, which belong to the awarding body and not to a person’s competence.
OUTGeneral pedagogy unrelated to AI competence.
How it combines with core statements

An instruction credential is assembled from core domain statements at the level the instructor must themselves hold, plus O1 statements covering the obligations of instructing and assessing. The core statements say what the person knows; the overlay says what they owe to the people they teach.

An overlay adds statements. It never modifies or replaces a core statement.

Statements by level

Every identifier is a permanent address. Indicators are normative; they state what would be observed in a person who meets the statement.

Collect evidence of a learner’s performance against stated indicators.

Indicators
Collects evidence against each indicator rather than an overall impression
Records what was observed, not what was inferred
Identifies where evidence is insufficient rather than filling the gap

Give feedback that names the indicator not yet met and what would meet it.

Indicators
Names the specific indicator and the gap

Separates feedback on evidence from judgement of the person
